Jumby Bay tours - you’ll never be bored
For guests lured by the delights of Antigua, the "Land of Sea and Sun," Jumby Bay's private ferry makes the ten-minute trip to shore throughout the day, and the concierge can arrange for a guided tour of the island's highlights. Discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493 and named for a cathedral in Seville, Spain, Antigua is rife with destinations not to be missed including Nelson's Dockyards on the edge of English Harbor at the southern end of the island. The only existing Georgian naval dockyard in the world and home to Horatio Nelson and Royal Navy during the 18th and 19th centuries, the dockyard's restored buildings house picturesque restaurants, museums and shops featuring locally produced goods. Overlooking the harbor visitors will spy Shirley Heights, once one of Antigua's most important defensive positions (and home to the Royal artillery Guard House), and now a spectacular lookout point. Antiguans head to this well-loved area on Sunday evenings for traditional barbeque and live music. Shoppers are drawn to Redcliffe Quay in St. John's, Antigua's historic capital, and those in search of culture should explore the 1716 Court House, the oldest building in St. John's, or the ancient tools and artifacts of the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda.
